Emma was having a day out at Spitalfields Market in London with her friends so we decided to get the train in with them and do a walk from the fantastic Londons Hidden Walks book by Stephen Millar.
We chose a walk in Clerkenwell and we had a really nice day out.
As we walked over to the start of the walk at Barbican from Liverpool Street, we stopped at Daisy Green cafe for a coffee. The cafe overlooks a contemporary garden surrounding the remains the church St Aplhege London wall. Remains of the Roman London Wall border the garden. So not only was the coffee really good but it was a interesting place to stop.
The actual walk we did was fascinating. These walks are so good, it seems you only have to walk a few yards and there is another point of interest or something to see. This walk is only 2.5 miles but we still didn’t see everything, we spent about three hours on the walk which did, of course, include lunch at at a little cafe called La Forchetta (great pasta!) which is just opposite Smithfield Meat Market.
Towards the end of the walk we ended up in Exmouth Market a really lively street just up the road from Mount Pleasant which had loads of cafes, restaurants and individual shops.
