The Town

Four men rob a bank taking the female bank manager (Claire) hostage. Releasing her once they have escaped, the robbers soon discover that Claire lives in their neighbourhood.
Jem (Jeremy Renner) believes she is a loose end so Doug (Ben affleck) decides to follow her to keep an eye on her but instead starts a relationship with her. With the FBI closing in, Doug is blackmailed into another robbery by Fergie (Pete Postlethwaite), the local crime boss.

I generally hated a lot – well all of Ben Afflecks earlier films as an actor but as a director he is excellent. “Gone baby Gone” was fantastic and he has done it again with “The Town”. This is right good thriller with some great performances, particularly Jeremy Renner as Coughlin. The action scenes are exceptional and it has you hoping the “bad” guys get away with it. As Robbery films go, its definitely up there with “Heat”, “Point Break” and “Inside man”.

  1. Heat is one of my absolute favourite films. Liz loves Point Break too. Maybe The Town is one we can go and see together without the kids in tow! Oh I forgot, all the cinemas are closed!

    1. Its been out on DVD here for a couple of months so it should have been released in NZ by now. Don’t miss it!

  2. Another one for the list! Spooky mask on the cover

  3. Had a watch of this and whilst I didn’t fall asleep which is now the norm during films……. I didn’t rate it very highly. Not a patch on point break! Something about Ben Afflick’s mumbling puts me off. Liz

  4. No, although I liked it, it’s nowhere near as good as Point Break. It’s the best!

Ben Harp: NO! No no no no no no NO! Let me tell you what you’ve produced… Over the last two weeks, you two have produced exactly squat! SQUAT! During which time the ex-presidents have robbed two more banks. Now for Christ’s sake, does either one of you have anything even remotely interesting to tell me?

Johnny Utah: I caught my first tube today… Sir.

  5. Sorry, Ive got another quote for you:

“Ben Harp: You know nothing. In fact, you know less than nothing. If you knew that you knew nothing, then that would be something, but you don’t.”

    No more, I promise!

  6. Hey Shaun, I thought it was OK but don’t reckon it was a patch on Heat. Besides, how do you compete with a movie that has both De Niro & Pacino starring in it?
