Mickey Ward, a welterweight boxer struggling in his career not through lack of talent but by being poorly managed by his mother and getting haphazard training from his cocaine addicted, former boxer brother Dickey.
After being soundly beaten in an obvious mismatch Mickey struggles to find direction for his career eventually his father takes up the training role and he finds a new manager. His new team agree that Dickie and his mother cannot be involved but can Mickey have the success he deserves without his brothers support?
This could have easily been yet another underdog boxing film that we have all seen before, but story about the brothers relationship and the great performances by the four core actors (Whalberg, Bale, Melissa Leo, and Amy Adams) make this a fabulous film to watch.
