Juan Oliver has taken a new job as a prison officer. During his tour of the prison, an accident occurs that knocks him unconscious. He is rushed to the empty cell 211. While waiting for a doctor a prison riot breaks out and the other prison officers scarper, leaving Juan in the middle of it. When he comes round he realises to survive he must pretend to be a prisoner.
Its a good story, Juan’s character develops from the terrified imposter to almost leading the rebellion and there’s some great scenes with Juan and and Maladrame the leader of the inmates with whom he starts to form a mutual respect.
I bet there’ll be an American remake in a year or two.
