Good film and a brilliant performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman.
It focuses on the time in Capotes life while he was writing “in cold blood” a book about a quadruple murder in Kansas and his relationship with one of the killers Perry Smith.
Its a fascinating story, although it is not made clear in the film I think that Capote falls in love with Perry and the torment he goes through gradually unhinges him.
The two men form this strong but exploitative relationship, Capote is in love and wants to help Perry get off his death sentence and he desperately wants to finish what is to become his masterpiece. However, he can’t until the Perry tells him what happened on the night of the murders which he refuses to do until just before the final appeal.
Well directed and a good script.
8/10 (but you’ve got to be in the mood)
