Set in the 2020s, Earth is under attack by Kaijus, huge monsters who are emerging from another dimension via a portal on the floor of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, we have developed “Jaegers”, huge robots controlled by two pilots whose minds are joined by a neural bridge.
The human story is pretty much the norm really, guy loses brother in a big battle goes off wandering around doing menial jobs, old commander comes to find him because they need him and because he’s one of the best blah blah blah. The special effects however are incredible, but these days we’ve seen it all really haven’t we? I did find myself thinking, enough of the action – skip to the end or perhaps I’m getting old because if you were 12 you would probably think this film is awesome!!
