Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock)is aboard the Space Shuttle Explorer. She is accompanied by Matt Kowalski, who is commanding his final expedition. During a spacewalk to service the Hubble Space Telescope, Mission Control orders the mission to be aborted after a Russian satellite blows up, forming a cloud of space debris. The debris strikes the Explorer and and Stone is sent tumbling through space. Kowalski recovers Stone and they attempt to make their way to the International Space Station.
This is an incredible film. First of all it looks amazing, and it must be seen in 3d to get full effect. The special effects are fantastic, particularly when the debris from the satellite hits the the ISS. Really well directed by Alfonso Cuaron who also made Children of Men which wasn’t brilliant but had some fantastic long shots.. The story, well, its unbelievable but that’s sci-fi for you. However, its a fantastic tale of survival.
