A documentary which focuses on the life in captivity of Tilikum, a killer whale who has caused the deaths of three people, and the consequences of keeping such large and intelligent animals in captivity. Tilikum’s story begins with his capture and removal from his mother in 1983 off the coast of Iceland, showing how he was harassed by fellow captive whales and left in dark tanks for hours – incidents that the director Cowperthwaite argues contributed to the whale’s aggression.
This is an fascinating documentary which will bring home to you just how intelligent these animals are, how strong their family bond is and how wrong it is to keep such animals in captivity.
A definite must see.
