A race of aliens called Mimics have taken over Europe. Against his wishes Major William Cage is ordered to take part in a battle on french beach. Cage is dropped in the first wave, during the battle he kills an unusually large mimic with a mine. The Mimic’s blood douses him just as the mine explodes, and Cage wakes at Heathrow the previous morning and the day of the battle starts all over again. It is during one of these time loops he meets Sergeant Rita Vrataski, a famous soldier known as the “Angel of Verdun”, in reference to the battle at Verdun where Vrataski slew hundreds of Mimics. She recognizes Cage’s ability to anticipate events and tells him to locate her when he “wakes up”.
Overall this films been quite well reviewed but I didn’t like it very much. The story’s OK but you cant help comparing it to “Source Code” which in my view is a much better film. Emily Blunt is good but I found Tom a bit annoying. The film has got a rubbish cheesy Tom ending which is, unfortunately, typical of a lot of his films.
Wait for it on DVD
7/10 and only because I quite fancy Emily Blunt.
