I was listening to a ‘random’ song on Radio Hauraki (a local rock station) the other night when I began to recognise the lyrics and realised it was a cover of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck. I did a bit of digging when I got home and discovered that the band is called Hellsong. They hail from Sweden and specialise in covering classic rock & metal songs. I had a listen to some of their other stuff and it’s pretty damn good. They do a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” which is really good.
Not many cover versions can be said to be as good as or even better than the original. A few spring to mind. Nirvana’s cover of Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold The World” is an obvious one. Johnny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nail’s “Hurt” is another. There are a few but not many.
Not sure if it’s your cup of tea but I happen to think they’re pretty good. Very original in an unoriginal sort of way!
