Brothers

BrothersTommy  (Gyllenhaal) and Sam (Maguire)are brothers A Marine captain about to embark on his fourth tour of duty, Sam is a family man married to his high school sweetheart, Grace, with two daughters. Tommy however, has just been released from jail for armed robbery when Sam leaves for Afghanistan.

Soon news comes that Sam’s helicopter has crashed, killing all of the Marines aboard.  With Sam gone, Tommy attempts to redeem himself in the eyes of his family and Grace and the kids and over time Grace and Tommy become close….

Made by Jim Sheridan who made “In America” this is an excellent film with a superb performance by Maguire (I know he’s a bit weird but he is really good in this) it really makes you think about the effects of war. Really good character driven film.

  1. I enjoyed this movie. I think the scene that I found most shocking was when Sam was forced to kill the other soldier being held captive with him. He appeared to act in cold blood but he knew that if he didn’t kill him quickly then the guy would meet a much more savage and prolonged death.
