Driverless Cars

Google have been funding research on driverless cars for a few years now and as of 2010, several vehicles equipped with the system have driven 1,609 kilometres (1,000 mi) without any human intervention. The cars have traversed San Francisco’s Lombard Street, famed for its steep hairpin turns and city traffic. The vehicles have also driven over the Golden Gate Bridge, on the Pacific Coast Highway, and have circled Lake Tahoe.

Personally I would love driverless cars just get in, feet up, perhaps watch a film. Most driving is dead mundane at best and monumentally frustrating at its worst.

This is an interesting article on the effects of driverless cars.

  1. The biggest variable is driver interaction. Take that out of the equation and the technology is sound!
