Dumfries & Galloway

K Orientating

While Emma was away in America, K and I had a trip up to Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries & Galloway for a couple of weeks.

It was a beautiful area, so quiet in comparison to Essex! We stayed in a little cottage in Gatehoues called the But & Ben a fantastic little place which was perfect for just the two of us.

On the first week in Gatehouse we spent a lot of time in the town as it was the Gatehouse Gala week so we were able to go to lots of events such as open gardens, history walk, the torchlit parade and bonfire with fireworks and the parade at the end of the week.

We also did a few bike rides, One of Ed Shootes rides up to the Big water of Fleet Viaduct and up to the Stroan Loch.

We also visited Threave Garden & Nature Reserve which has wondereful gardens and we were able to walk out to Threave Castle and watch Ospreys which was fantastic.

Kircudbright is a fantastic town near gatehouse we visited a couple of times. The first time we went, we did the Arts & Crafts Trail which is held once a year and has about 100 galleries, stalls and open houses.

I also did another Ed Shoote ride the “Galloway Forest Park and Big Country Route”. It was a great ride, I got a bit disgruntled at one part climbing through a deforested area with my lower gears playing up but, once was up the views of Loch Dee and Glen Trool were well worth it.

K and I also did another ride along the Carrick Shore and along to Kircudbright.

We spent our final day hanging out on Carrick Shore. A beautiful, quiet stretch of Coast near Gatehouse.
