We went Alexandra Palace on Friday night with Iris and Dave to see Fontaines DC. We had an amazing night “I love you” and “Boys in the Better land” were the stand out tracks for me – a great night. Roll on Finsbury Park in July!
The Rest of the Weekend..
We made a weekend end of it and stayed at this apartment in Hampstead. It was really nice place, handy for shops, eateries and Hampstead Heath.
On Saturday we went over to Highgate Cemetery. K had booked a tour and it was fascinating learning about the history of the cemetery and hearing the stories about some of the characters who are buried there. It’s hard to believe that the Cemetery closed in the 60’s and fell into disrepair and it wasn’t until the mid 70’s when the friends of cemetery started to restore it. Although, it is a result of this period of neglect that has made the cemetery such a fascinating place to visit today.
Saturday evening we had dinner at The flask in Highgate which was really good and really cosy as it had turned into a cold and wet afternoon.
Sunday we headed down to Kings Cross and visited Queer Britain which is Britains only LGBT+ museum. Its current exhibition describes the last 50 years since the Stonewall riots and the start of pride marches. It also hit me that it has only been just over 20 years since section 28 was repealed. Although there is still a long way to go, it is encouraging that the attitudes of young people today are much more inclusive than they were when I was their age.
