Tony “Lip” Vallelonga—an Italian-American bouncer played by Mortensen who gets hired to escort a black pianist, Dr. Don Shirley (Ali), on a tour of the Deep South in 1962.
Today we Went to the Abbeygate in Bury for lunch and to see this film which we’ve been looking forward to seeing for some time. It didn’t disappoint, It isn’t really a film about race, class or sexuality although all subjects are included it’s a story about the relationship between two men seemingly opposite who grow to like and respect each other despite their prejudices.
Fantastic performances from both actors with some great dialogue, the letter writing scenes are really good.
