A dramatisation of The Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968, a landmark labour-relations dispute. It ultimately led to the passing of the Equal Pay Act 1970, the first legislation in the UK aimed at ending pay discrimination between men and women.
Sally Hawkins is superb as Rita O’Grady, a machinist who is tired of inequality and ends up leading her work mates out on a strike. Its an extremely well written film which not only focuses on the strike action but also on the sexism from the unions and even their husbands.
