Music Memories #2 – The Specials

The Specials - Ghost Town

Ghost Town was released in 1981 and was number one for three weeks. I remember absolutley loving the track and the video and still do now.

It also brings back strong memories of getting off with Sally Cook at a house party – a night to remember!! 😉

  1. I remember this song, we taped it off the Top 40 and played it over and over.
Does anyone remember the first single they ever bought with their own money?
Mine was “Come on Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners

  2. I too remember ghost town, listening to it on an orange tape in our bedrooms! Sounded so ghostly!

My first single was Driving in my Car by Madness, closely followed by Keith Harris and Orville (OMG)!!

Trust Shaun to associate the song with pulling a bird at a party!!!

  3. What a great song. I used to love listening to it when I was a yoof. It definitely had the zeitgeist thing going, really capturing the mood of the early 80’s. My favourite bit of the song is the end the way it fades out.

I have to confess that the first 7″ single I bought with my own money was ‘Whatever You Want’ by Status Quo. I just loved the intro. Ironic then that I can’t stand Status Quo!!!!!!!
