Had a great first stop in Peel Forest. The campsite was great and we had a superb walk through the forest. The rainforest covers the mountain slopes and includes giant ferns and really impressive 1000yr old trees called Totara and Kahikatea.
Emma loves her bed above the cab.
After Peel Forest we headed up to Lake Tekapo which was nice but was much better viewed from the top of Mount John, which has an observatory at the peak. It was quite a climb up and the camper smelt a bit but we made it – just!

Sunset at Tekapo
By the church of “The Good Shepherd” visitors had built these mini stone monuments
So Emma had a go…
Lake Tepako
After Mount John the girls went Horse trekking. Emma rode her own horse led by the owner through the forest by Lake Tepako. They both really enjoyed it although Emma was a bit grumpy when they got back because the trek was too short!
Lake Pukaki has got to be the most amazing place I have ever seen in my life. I struggle to describe how beautiful it is. It just blows you away with this incredibly majestic view of the mountains and the aqua blue lake.
On our way to the campsite we stopped at a salmon farm and bought some which we barbied for tea.-yummy! Tonight we are in Omarama and tomorrow we are heading down to Oamaru on the coast to see the penguins
