Oblivion

Oblivion2013PosterFollowing an alien invasion 60 years earlier which nearly destroyed the Earth, Jack Harper (Cruise) is a drone mechanic stationed on the planet. Jack and his colleague Victoria are part of an operation to clean up the remaining forces of the invasion and extract the planet’s remaining resources. Jack suffers from flashbacks of an unknown girl. Nearing the end of his mission, Jack rescues a female stranger from a crashed spaceship. She is inside a sleeping capsule but when she wakes up they recognise each other but who is she?

Get yourself ready when you start to watch this film because you are bombarded with information for the first few minutes but then the next section of the film just sort plods along and the initial excitement dwindles. But when the a ship comes down and Jack rescues the girl it improves dramatically and you are broken out of your fairly bored state and it develops into a pretty interesting sci-fi with a good story which has echoes of Moon.
Very well shot with a really cool ship the world created by the director looks amazing. Toms ok, not too cheesy but the best acting role must go to Andrea Riseborough who plays his trapped partner.

Well worth a watch I was thinking of giving it an 8 for the slow beginning but I think I’ll give it 9/10.
