Portsmouth

It’s half term this week so we’ve borrowed Barbie and Marks house while they’re sunning themselves in Australia.

We headed down on Sunday and mooched yesterday as it was pouring most of the day (so nice to just doss about, don’t you just love rainy days!)

Today we cycled down to the historic dockyard to see HMS Warrior.

An amazing ship, built in 1860, one of the first iron clad warships to be built. She never fired a shot and was obsolescent by 1871 as technology improved. What amazed me about her design was that she had the largest hoisting propeller ever made; it weighed 34 tons and 300 men could raise it by hoisting it into the ship to reduce drag while under sail.

After our visit we were starving so we cycled to Pie & Vinyl for lunch. We had a good old browse and some amazing pies! Yum yum!

K’s pie is not burnt it’s called “back to black” a beef wellington pie and I had a “staggeringly good pie” a beef and ale pie with peppers and a bit of chilli in the pastry – amazing!

Emma had a pieminister chicken & ham.
