Based in 2009 and 1942 this French film follows the story of an American journalist’s investigation into the Vel’ d’Hiv Roundup where in July 1942, French police in German-occupied Paris rounded up over 13000 Jews who were then taken to Auschwitz.
Realising that her husbands flat in Paris was taken over by his family once the Jews were removed, Julia resolves to discover what happened to the family.
A tragic, harrowing tale, really well told with fantastic performances from Kristen Scott Thomas and Mélusine Mayance who plays 10 year old Sarah. We both really enjoyed this film although, I must warn you that it is very very moving. It had us both in tears.
10/10
