Shutter Island is the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.
Having read the novel by Dennis Lehane a couple of years ago I was quite excited to see this film. Dicaprio in the lead- excellent. Scorcese directing….hhmm. I’m not a big fan of Martin Scorcese, I don’t think he has done a decent film since “Cape Fear” in the early 90’s.
Unfortunately Scorcese has satisfied a self indulgent need to create a Hitchcockian atmosphere. As a result of this, the film just feels dated, the music is terrible and at 2 1/4 hours its way too long.
Give it a miss
