A German/Austrian film based on the memoirs of Adolf Burger a Jewish typographer who was involved in Operation Bernhard in which the Nazis planned to destabilise the British economy with forged banknotes.
The story centers around Salomon Sorowitsch, a talented forger who is recruited for the operation. He and his men are given extraordinary privileges, food, comfortable beds and they are sealed off from the rest of the jews in the camp and they struggle with the dilemma of how much do they cooperate with the Nazis in the name of self preservation and this causes big divisions between the men.
A very well made film with good performances, not at all cheery but gripping none the less.
