In Kabul before the soviet invasion two boys Amir and his servant hassan are best friends. Amir is bullied and hassan protects him but when the bullies take revenge on Hassan, Amir hides and doesn’t go the aid of his friend. Amir feeling guilty, shuns Hassan and even accuses him of stealing so Hassan has to leave. A short while later the soviets invade and Amir and his father flee to America.
Years later, Amir has become an author and he has a call from an old friend of his father who asks him to go to Pakistan because “there is a way to be good again”. When he arrives he is told that Hassans son Sohrab needs his help in Afghanistan and gives him a chance for atonement.
An extremely well acted and well made film,the only criticism I would have is I didn’t get a real feel for the guilt Amir may have felt in later life, I know he did, but it was never conveyed.
