Weald & Downland Museum

The Weald & Downland Museum is a 40 Acre site in Singleton, near Chichester which has 50 buildings dating over the last 1000 years. It’s a fascinating insight into how people lived and worked in these amazing buildings. Some of the buildings were really soot stained and I couldn’t believe that chimneys were not common in houses until the 16 & 17th century! Beautiful buildings though, including a working mill and there was also a pair of cottages which were built in the 1860’s which were very similar to our house!

This was a Granary. It was raised on paddles to deter rats and vermin.

A beautiful horse, apparently there are only 2000 Shire horses left in the UK.

Emma testing the Privy in a Tudor Farmhouse!

All the gardens had veggie and herb plots.
