Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence) looks after her younger brother, sister and her very odd mother in a really poor area of Missouri. Her absent father has put up their house as collateral for his bail and unless he shows up for his trial in a week’s time, they will lose it. Knowing her father was involved in the local drug trade she puts her own life at risk to try and discover what has happened to her father.
Nominated for four Oscars, its a very well made film, you really feel the depression and the struggle these people endure in this really grim rural area. Its a powerful story and Jennifer Lawrence’s performance is really good but don’t watch it to cheer yourself up!
